Hey.
As summer quickly approaches it's time to change up body products to suit the hot weather, and protect our skin from harsh UV rays. Slip slop slap and wrap! Skin care is so vitally important, too many people are choosing to not wear sunscreen to get a tan. Sunburn can lead to melanoma- skin cancer. Be careful! You only have one body, you need to look after it and a big part of that is what you put on it. With that, below is everything I'm using in summer to look after my skin, face and hair this sunny season.
Hair
Hats! Hats are great at keeping you
cool and getting the sun off of your face.
This one isnt the most fashionable, but I
have a secret love for straw hats. |
My wet brush is a god send. It's probably the best brush I have ever owned. It's great at detangling without causing your hair to frizz out and look like a mop. My kobo also makes an appearance here, because there's nothing nicer than sitting in the sun reading. |
Thin hair ties. They don't make your hair have a massive kink, and are gentle on your hair. I don't know about you, but I hate having my hair down when it's really hot, so they're really good at keeping your hair out of your face. |
Garnier Fructis Anti-Frizz serum. This stuff saved my hair last summer. My hair was getting so gritty and awful from swimming in the sea everyday, and chlorine from pools. I put a little bit of this on my ends when my hair is just out of the shower. A little goes a long way with this, so do be careful with applying too much! You could be left with greasy looking hair. Use a teeny tiny little drop. |
SKIN AND FACE
COCONUT OIL! Yeesss. I can get random dry spots on my face, and I had just run out of my moisturizer, so I applied coconut oil to my face mainly overnight and magically my skin softened. Proceed with caution on using coconut oil on your face as I'm told it can cause certain skin types to break out. I have sensitive and normal-dry skin and I've never had any breakouts in my life so far. I'm also going to be using Coconut Oil on my hair after seeing this photo, and this blog post. I think I could really save my hair the damage with that technique. |
Earth 174 is a New Zealand brand and this is the best face wash I have ever used. Ever. It's organic, pleasant smelling, soothing and gentle. My older brother has normal-oily skin and when he was going through a bout of acne he used this and it cleared up remarkably. It helps with my normal-dry skin and because I do have sensitive skin, this is so gentle and rejuvenating. |
Love The Mango Cream Perfume, cream perfume and cream in general is perfect for summer, I can't deal with powders in summer! Mango just screams summer, and because its a cream perfume it stays on a lot longer. |
Earth 174 Facial Toner. So cooling! I spray this on my face and let it air dry. Toners even out your skin tone, and this one I think is aimed specifically at sensitive skin so for me it's amazing! On hot days cold water and this is the absolute. |
Deodorant. Gotta make sure you don't smell like sweat, I personally really like Dove. Dove is super gentle and not artificial. |
MAKEUP
In warmer months, I tend to reach for tinted moisturizers and BB creams instead of foundations and powder. BB creams are also great because they have SPF to help protect your face. |
Mega Plush Volum Express Mascara by Maybelline I don't think this is waterproof, but I so far haven't had panda eyes from this mascara when swimming! I like this mascara because it doesn't clump ridiculously and it's given me heaps of length. |
I think for me, this summer I will mainly be curling those lashes! Curling your eyelashes can make your eyes immediately look more open and awake. |

The sarong here we bought in Samoa, in 2012. I adored Samoa, and it is definitely a place I would love to go back to! My parents, grandparents and I are going on a five week trip to Europe - September 2015, and I'm feeling a massive mix of emotions. |
Back on subject here, SUNSCREEN. Do not scrimp on sunscreen! I know it can be expensive, but really invest in good sunscreen. I'm loving Niveas spray on sunscreen. Also don't forget to moisturize your lips! My lips usually get gross, so I actually really like BabyLips by Maybelline. |
Also, don't forget about keeping up your fluids. My Uncle during our Samoa trip, drank beer then played rugby with a few local boys, didn't drink water that whole day; staggered to the bathroom and ended up fainting in there! He hit his head pretty hard on the ground, and was shattered for a few days. Moral of the story: DRINK WATER. |

If you do happen to have sunburn, Island Tribe Sun Protection Clear Gel is great at repairing skin and cooling the burn. |
Stay safe in the sun, and most of all enjoy summer! Don't worry so much about baring skin, I know all about insecurities! Life is too short to care about what every single person thinks, care about certain people but don't fuss over wearing a bikini. Just wear it girl! Read this blogpost, It's one of my favourites and its a message more people should hear! Also I loved this video, on overcoming fears of wearing a bikini. But 100% you don't have to be plus size to be worried about wearing a bikini, I know so many women on the otherside of the spectrum, they can't put on weight and are faced with being told to "eat a pie" or asked if they are suffering from an eating disorder. For those girls there's this video from Zoella and SprinkleofGlitter here, and another here. Most importantly, I think it's okay to be whatever body type and whatever shape you are and not to be afraid of that, you don't have to love yourself but you deserve not to hate yourself.
Be YOU! Bare that skin girl. I love you ! xx
