Stress relief

Hey.

I feel like when we get to this time of year, we all (at least I do!) get incredibly stressed.
In my family we always have massive family Christmases, which includes about 70 of us, meeting on Christmas day at one of my great aunties/grandparents houses. The last Christmas I got so overwhelmed I ended up eating rice crackers in our car!

So, now I've got a plan for this years Christmas! I do have an anxiety disorder, stressing and panicking is definitely in my zone. I've made a wee sort of a list, of products and activities I have found helpful thus far!

ZENTANGLES

The word zentangle already sounds relaxing!
Zentangles are basically just little
doodles done in black pen.
They're great because it takes your mind
somewhere else, and you don't need to worry
that it doesn't turn out perfect.
Focusing on colouring, and doing random
shapes, I feel can clear your mind.
Give them a try! They are so much fun to draw.
Here's my pinterest board on zentangles,
if you need any inspiration, I encourage
you to google/pinterest search them!

MUSIC

Music is definitely a personal taste,
but I find Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith amazing to listen
to when I'm stressed.
Music can do this amazing thing
that makes you not feel so alone,
if you can, whip out your headphones
and listen to whatever you connect with the most.
I know my brother listens to heavy metal
as his way of getting his emotions
out, so really do some searching!
Find your own taste, ignore the people
saying that your taste is horrible, or that an artist/band
is crap, etc.
You do you.

TEA

Tea again, can be a little personal.
I find just holding a hot mug, smelling whatever is in it
calms me down. It could be hot chocolate even.
Proceed with caution with coffee.
For me personally, I can't drink coffee.
Coffee makes my whole body feel jelly, and my heart feel like its
leaping out of my throat.
If you do have anxiety, it is best to avoid caffeine.
I really love the Heatheries teas, we have
'be sleepy' and 'be happy'.
I love it when tea bags have the cute little messages
on the tag.

MEDICINE

I'm a bit cautious around this one.
For me personally, I use lots of organic and natural
products, and its a bit of a push for me to use
 medines for anxiety.
I mainly use these for when I'm stressed
rather than when I'm having a panic attack.
These products are great for the aftermath of a panic attack,
or just general stress.
With that, I find 'Executive Stress B' great.
'Magnesium' is also used for relaxing muscles and is good
for relaxing the mind too.
'Rescue Remedy' is more natural, and has a dropper
for you to place it on your tongue.
Rescue Remedy seems quite good,
you can drop it into water and drink it so no
one knows you're actually relieving stress.

HEAT

Heat can be so relaxing. I use this little
wheatpack, that you heat up in the microwave.
It's even in the shape of a heart, so you know you're loved ;-)
I think this can depend on the weather outside,
like in summer when its sweltering,
I prefer maybe a cool wet flannel, to place on my forehead.

SMELL

I find having relaxing smells in the air,
can make you almost subconsciously relax more.
Whether this is through candles, infusers or essential oils I
rub on my wrists and behind my ears.
Great essential oils for de-stressing are; Lavender, Rosehip, Chamomile
and even specially infused ones.
I like the two above from Bloom Organics.
I find the 'Calming' blend, to smell a lot better than 'Uplifting'.
Again, that's personal; definitely go out and have a
look at stress-relief products, there are often heaps at drugstores/pharmacys.
Also have a search for ones you can diy at home,
or maybe you've got something hidden away.

Most of all, I think it's good to realize that actually, it's okay to be stressed.
It's okay to rely on others, and to ask for help, reassurance, or maybe just a hug.
Think about how blessed you are just to be alive. You are not alone.

Give a few products a go, if you fancy and be gentle on yourself.
Thanks for reading! I hope you have an amazing week. xx
