Hey!
I hope you are well! We left off this series in Rome, I would recommend reading these in order starting with Istanbul then Venice and Rome.
Okay! So beautiful, beautiful Croatia. Fair warning, this post is very long and if you're in cold weather right now will make you have great summery envy! xx
We flew from Rome to Split, and the first thing that struck me was how clean the airport was, and how there was literally no crowds. This was such a relief to my tired body dealing with crowds upon crowds is tiring!
After getting a rental car we made our way towards our apartment.. Or so we thought! My grandfather driving and father navigating with a cruddy paper map... Not so fun. I was most frustrated because they weren't listening to anything I had to say, and there's nothing more crushing than that!
By some miracle we made it and our lovely apartment man, Darko let us inside. Split was warm and it's clear blue skies made me very happy.
The first thing we did was go to Diocletians Palace, coincidentally it was less than a minute from our apartment. Not even joking.
All of the stairs!!
The beautiful bell tower view! (I was very heart eyes emoji)
Croatia has so many Bougainvillea everywhere! I LOVE IT
This was near the museum that we wandered into and then wandered out of when we realized it wasn't free.. whoops!
And then we went underground.. how amazing is this palace! It was so cool (temperature and great) I had so much fun going off on my own and exploring. It was quiet and peaceful. we were usually the only people in a room!
Outside the palace and market now! Wandering down the waterfront.
We soon made a decision of going to the beach.. it was 3 pm then and 4 pm by the time we organised and figured out how to catch the bus!
This is the beach we decided to go to!
Swimming in the Adriatic Sea made me feel like a mermaid, all of my childhood wishes of being Ariel were coming true!
That night we went to a lovely restaurant, and had the tallest waiter I've ever seen! He had amazing english and told us about some history of Croatia, it was really nice to meet him, and only a shame my Lasgna was so cold! (I don't know about you, but I feel so mean at restaurants sending things back, and with him being so nice!!)
After our dinner we wandered the town, and found a live concert by the waterfront! It had such an amazing atmosphere I immediately wished I had my friends with me. Looking around at the crowd everyone was happy and dancing, and couples were hugging.
We listened for a while then wandered to the market stalls, then I spotted a sign and practically ran for it. It said "Henna Art!" Oh yes. It was 9 pm and I was in Croatia getting henna? I sat and a bubbly blonde girl did her magic. She was hilarious and talked about a random dog movie she saw and cried at.
And then as soon as it had begun, we had to leave Split! Onwards we drove to Dubrovnik! Here's a 'behind the scenes snap'
On our way Mum got a text from Darko, the apartment owner back in Split. Worried, she didn't look at it for a few hours, but when she did we were all happy. Darko had said, "I wish you all the best, from the heart <3"
How lovely is he!! My pop later said how it was one of his favourite things that happened.
After a drive through Bosnia we made it into Dubrovnik! (Whooo!)
This is the view from our apartment... !
Our apartment was beautiful and in such a nice spot, unfortunately it had 80 steps we had to lug our bags down... and then up. (That sound you can hear? Its the sound of my thighs crying)
The next day was time to climb the Old Dubrovnik Walls and explore the Old City! (if I thought my thighs were crying then...)
Spot me!
Do not mind the attractive sweaty red face, WE ALL GET SWEATY SOMETIMES
Oh and this is the place where my hat died, it's currently somewhere in the Adriatic. Rip Hat, hope some fish or shark somewhere is making good use of you.
After all the sweaty fun, we made our way to the cable cars to get a car up to the top of that (hill? mountain? I'm hopeless!) you see in the background.
We flew up in the cable car like Mary Poppins and her umbrella.
Once up there we went up even higher, on top of a museum all about war in Croatia.
Dubrovnik from above!
After we waited an hour outside the apartment for the bus, (not exaggerating) we explored the Old Town at night!
The next day we went on a three island cruise!
The cruise was relaxing, and I swam at two out of the three islands! The crew on the boat were hilarious and I got an accidental cup of white wine that I mistook for juice...
I had such a good day and this was the perfect taste of summer. There's no way I'm not going back to Croatia! I honestly need to grab my friends and go for at least a month!
And sadly, this is the end of my Croatia journey! Tune in soon for my London trip!
Love,
Georgia Maree xx
