Venice & Rome - Europe 2015

Hey,

If you haven't checked out my Istanbul post you can here ! I'm doing these in order so I would recommend reading them in a series! I left off in a dreary wee mood of Istanbul, so please enjoy the lightened up part two of Europe 2015 !

By then, I was so very ready for civilization and a place where nobody cares what you're wearing, and poof we went to Venice.

VENICE
I have this weird thing with the sea, where as soon as I sea it (HAH) I get very happy. It's like a switch goes on, and I can smell happiness bubbling inside me and it's just very exciting. As a child, I was always the first one in the water and the last one out. My brother and I had a problem as toddlers where we would strip naked as soon as we saw an inkling of water.

This time, I didn't strip naked, but I totally got excited. We took a water taxi boat thing, I don't know I was peeing with exhilaration at this point! (Not literally.) (let's just clarify that)
Venice. Is. Gorgeous.

Everything about it, from the ancient buildings to the gentle breeze to the bright warmth of the sun kissing my shoulders, it was perfect. I knew on Pinterest I'd seen a photograph of the bridge of sighs so off we trotted to find it. It was buried under the hordes of tourists but we managed a great photo. The rest of the day we just explored Venice. My mother and I became separate from the pack which was fine with me! We came to a restraunt looking out on the sea, with gondolas and boats whizzing past. I ordered some random pizza, without knowing a lick of Italian. By some dumb luck I got a margarita pizza! Oh yes, it was amazing. Yay for you margarita pizza.

By the time we had to leave Venice I didn't want to. It just felt so good to be there and I enjoyed the vibe. Our boat ride back was fun, and we boarded a flight to Rome.

ROME
We started our first day in Rome on the Spanish steps, which should be renamed "The place where lots of people photobomb your photos and look really bored and grumpy" I mean come on, you know you're in the photo at least pull a silly face!
This is my mum! Guess which guy I'm talking about ;)
After some food, we wandered off towards the Trevi Fountain. Unfortunately it was under construction so you couldn't see anything or get any thing from it really. So that sucked! I didn't take any pictures, I enjoyed watching people try to throw their coins in (over the big barriers!)

The Pantheon was next! I don't really know what more to say! I enjoyed it and that was that really! (Ah, I don't think all this being around my brother is helping my adjective writing!! Oh dear)

We made our way towards the Colosseum next and on the way, stumbled across a frozen yoghurt type place... Dark chocolate ? DARK CHOCOLATE. AMAZING
Minutes after, dark chocolate and berry yoghurt in hand, at the first sight of cats I pratically ran down the stairs. Turns out, it's a cat sanctuary!

What Can I say.. I'm a cat lady.

Torre Argentina Cat Sanctuary! Check it out here and here !! As it turns out, its a no kill sanctuary, and they've homed I think over 100 cats this year. I actually got emotional hearing this and seeing them all! My cats were at home waaaay back in New Zealand and I just love them a lot okay, I'm done now. :')

When we arrived (finally!) at the Colosseum, I started to notice the dropping temperature and clouding grey skies...

AAAAnd... then, it poured down. We all took shelter and quick as a flash the men selling selfie sticks switched to plastic covers and umbrellas. He kept coming up to us over and over, asking for €5 five euro ! Needless to say we did not buy a piece of plastic for $8.31 NZD! (Yikes!)
After the mini pour we were able to get in pretty fast, and luckily I'd just bought a jacket so we sauntered on! (Side note, It's a lovely grey leather one and I like it very much)

Day Two - Vatican
Vatican exploring !
How cool is this place! I liked just wandering around which meant I literally was a little lost bunny frolicking through the crowds ignoring the tour group I was supposed to be with.. (It's 1 am now, can you tell? :') )

Cool sphere thing I liked yep great caption

My tour guide told us he got emotional when he first learnt the story behind this statue, as it's of a father getting strangled with his family, he advised those who may be sensitive to it to not look. I think he was amazingly passionate about it all and it made the tour interesting.

Once we got inside it was beautiful!

Inside the Sistine Chapel, no photos or videos are allowed. I was fine with that because I think sometimes to truly experience things we need to look beyond a screen. Unfortunately many MANY rude tourists decided to be extremely dissrespectful to everyone by still sneaking photographs. The amount of people I saw taking pictures astounded and enraged me. I was not amused ! I just think, you're not entitled to these amazing views, to then completely disregard the guards yelling out no photos ?? what are you doing! Simple respect is a really good idea :) Rant over!

So that is it! I do hope you enjoyed this somewhat and congratulations if you made it to the end!

Love,
Georgia Maree xx
