BIG Families || DEAR SKYE #3
Dear Skye,
We have a big family. On your Mums side which is my Dad's side, we are all quite close.
Granny G has 5 brothers and sisters!
And, so does my Dad! Way back when my Dad was a kid, he had 2 sisters (YOUR Mum!) and 1 brother (two more were later born), and added to that he has a whole lot of cousins. These cousins were even his age! He always had someone to hang out with and annoy.
Now, My Dad and his cousins have had heaps of kids, and us! Which means there are a lot of people around. Because we meet up every 2 years for a big family Christmas, there's always more family each time. If you're not used to it, or if crowds scare you it can be pretty full on!
Sometimes the Great Aunt's hosting it will go a bit crazy, and get really stressed out which will then, stress you out! Try to keep out of the way if you can! Once you reach teenage years they expect you to help out a bit more - even when you just want to hide in blankets and eat chocolate. My advice is to just cruise around and make the most of it! Having a big close family is something special even if it is overwhelming.
Make friends with your cousins! They aren't going anywhere, you aren't going anywhere so hang out! My generation definitely has a lot more cliques than Dad's one but that doesn't mean you can't go play with anyone. Plus, your favourite older cousin Georgia is always going to be hovering by.
Big families are also great for adventures. Get involved!
Love,
Georgia Maree xx
