Hey, I'm Jemma Rose and this is my guest post. Check out my blog, http://simplyjemma-rose.blogspot.co.uk/ xx
Exactly 1 month ago today our team was off (Which included Joshua my younger brother , Holly my younger sister, my Parents and of course Me !) On our adventure to Rarotonga , After a four hour plane journey (Which felt like forever ) (And i get nervous on planes by the way ) And an aborted landing (Which happens a lot with these small islands ) I just could not wait to get off that plane !
As I stepped off the plane , My ears were filled with tropical music , And my eyes with traditional dance , It seemed the exactly same as it did in the pictures . After standing up waiting for a good 45 minutes we realised that our bus was never going to arrive ! We persuaded one of the other minibus companies to let us on their bus and we would switch over the money later. As I was sitting in one of the hot , Scratchy , Leather seats , I tried to keep a smile on my face . I knew it was going to get better later . I remained silent clicking away with my camera on all the different sight to see .
My grandpa and grandma on my dads side had lived in Rarotonga for a year just before the independence ( Which i think was about 50 years ago ?) As my grandpa was the principal of one of the schools in the centre of the island . I was really excited to see what rarotonga was really like !
The next day we met an awesome family with two kids from cambridge , Their names were Molly (Who was 12 ) And Toby (Who was 10 ) Josh, Holly and I instantly became friends with both of them ( And as a matter of fact I am just about to email molly now !).
We had decided the day before that we should get up early ( About 7.30 ) And go do a walk/run .
I saw a lot of amazing things such as frangipanis ( I have always wanted to see one because they looked so pretty ! ) , The Crystal clear blue Muri lagoon , Some kids (Baby goats ) , And some chicks (Baby chickens ) That were so cute and fluffy that I just wanted to pick up and take them back home with me (I am not sure that airplanes let chicks on board !) I even saw a wild pig , That smelt so bad ! In Rarotonga there are lots of stray dogs which we spent lots of our time there running away from them so they didn't look like they were ours ( The dogs seemed to know there way around the island so there was no chance of running away from them !) I would recommend walking as a super way to get around Rarotonga !
THE BEACH HUT BOYS
At lots of the resorts there are beach boys who help you with your kayaks , Exchange your towels and even run a kids club ! They are super funny and a bit sarcastic ! Most days at the kids club ( Which I am actually too old for but they let me in anyway ) It was just Josh , Toby , Holly, Molly and I! We each had nicknames, Toby was spiderman ( Aka toby mcguire ) Holly was wet pants , As on the first day that we met them Holly ran around saying my pants are wet ! My pants are wet ! Because she had just hopped out of the pool and put her shorts over her wet togs ! Molly was mouse ( Just because) And I was Pemma as Holly had introduced me as !
THE MARKETS IN TOWN
On our second to last day in Rarotonga , We decided to explore the markets with molly and toby . The markets were a great way to learn more about the culture of Rarotonga , And there were lots of interesting things to see and buy ! One of our favourite things to eat at the market would probably have to be the amazing doughnuts because They were super delicious and had chocolate custard in them (Of course , Not so healthy !) Another awesome drink Josh and I had was a super healthy starfruit , Coconut and Banana smoothie !!! Holly , Molly and i all bought a couple of really beautiful bright bracelets and toby bought a traditional Rarotongan drum ! ( He would not stop playing it !)
There are lots more things to see and do in Rarotonga but these were just a couple of experiences I had!
Love Jemma x
