Foot forward
Hey.
So I've been thinking.
I've been thinking about motivation and the amount of effort it can take to even get out of bed in the morning. Whenever I tell people that I do school by correspondence, which is basically self disciplined everyone always asks, "How do you get the motivation?" or "When I was your age I couldn't have done that, I'd have just mucked around all day"
It surprises me that motivation is such a rare thing, I mean to an extent majority of people have an amazing amount of motivation and they don't even know it.
Getting out of bed in the morning? Motivation. You told your body to get up and you did it. You went to work or school or you even just managed to touch the ground.
That's pretty amazing.
I think that fitness motivation and really motivation in general is purely mental, if you say you can do it, and tell yourself you can you can. You put one foot in front of the other and suddenly you're walking and running and you wouldn't be able to do that if you hadn't have gotten out of bed or laced up your shoe laces.
Something that my dad told me once really stuck, you see my dad's a major fitness freak now but he never used to be. When my brother and I were little, dad wasn't able to go out for runs and things because he was watching us (Mum was there too by the way, they both were involved in our childhood) Mum's hockey team needed another player and she called on Dad, he said he could hardly run the field and was puffing like mad. He said he was so embarrassed he decided he was over it. He never looked back and has now done countless triathlons, a marathon last year and he's met some good friends through cycling, and ironically now works at the New Zealand Rugby Museum.
So last year, he told me "The hardest part [about running and fitness] is tying up your shoelaces."
For the rest of the year I'm going to be putting my metaphorical foot forward and my feet forward. x
